“There is a reason why you are the way you are. There is a reason why you are at this high school at this time; there is a reason why you have the teachers that you have. God made you ‘you’ for a reason. Now go out there and fulfill your purpose… . If your family name has a bad reputation in this town, go out there and change it. You can be the one who makes people proud of your family name—the one who makes people proud to say that you went to this school. Everyone has a special purpose and a gift from God. No one else can do the things that you were meant to do.”

Maybe he didn’t beat the Titans, but what my kids will remember about Carey Casey are the words the spoke, the truth he dropped into their lives, and the passion with which he said it. Some days, it’s really bloomin’ great to be a teacher.

  3. This is a good thing because what it means is this: All the time you spend worrying about what other people think of you is wasted; most of the time, people aren’t thinking of you at all, so QUIT WORRYING and DO YOUR THING!

  4. Ugly does not apply

Last night, I watched NoBody’s Perfect, a documentary on Thalidomides (as they call themselves), and I thought about it all night and again today. I wish I could take back every time I ever called someone ugly or judged someone—for good or for ill—based on appearances. Who the hell am I to judge?

Real beauty, not the manufactured kind, has absolutely NOTHING to do with appearance, and if we teach our children otherwise, we do them a disservice.
